Master Facility Plan Proposal

4/8/2024 – Friends of Stockton is aware of DCPS’s Master Facility Plan proposal and the inclusion of our beloved school on the list of potential school closures and consolidations.  FOS understands that the School Board and DCPS are in the early stages of any future consolidation plans, and FOS is confident in Stockton’s long-term future. Notably, the third-party report upon which the consolidation plan is based is preliminary and did not consider many critical factors, including the academic performance of the schools and community involvement. As we all know, Stockton has been an A school for decades and was recently named one of the top 50 elementary schools in Florida by U.S News and World Report. Stockton is also a cornerstone of Ortega Forest and the local community.  Stockton has been a treasured and valuable resource for the local community for over 60 years, and FOS believes it will remain so for decades to come.

As Principal Brannan has explained, DCPS is still reviewing and discussing the proposal. If DCPS moves forward, the likely next step in the process would be community engagement. FOS encourages our Stockton community to speak up in support of our school if and when the community meeting is set by DCPS.  Our understanding is that any community meeting would not be scheduled until the next school year, and we look forward to sharing more details about it with our FOS community when we learn more.  In the meantime, FOS will continue to fulfill its mission of providing the resources necessary, through fundraising and special volunteer projects, for Stockton to continue to achieve excellence in education. FOS believes in Stockton’s future, and it will continue to invest in and support our school.
